Reaching Better Writing: Understanding the Principles of Teaching Writing in K to 8th Classrooms

Course Description

Learners will examine the five central elements of creating high-quality authentic writing assignments and will have the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of both the pedagogical content and the writing process as they engage in the process of writing a persuasive piece as an exemplar for their students and potentially for publication.

After completing this course, the learner should be able to:

• Demonstrate his/her/their knowledge of key elements of authentic writing assignments based on the model outlined in this course.
• Explain how to implement this model of writing for various types of assignments and plan instruction using this framework.
• Examine their own writing process within the persuasive genres.
• Expand his/her/their professional learning community through collaboration with others across multiple contexts.
